So lets talk about how we run mets/clicks when playing live. Personally I use the built in metronome in Ableton but it seems that some people create a click sound in a wav to play with. So what do you do? And for those of you who make your clicks what tones/sounds do you use? What are the advantages in your opinions of either way? :)

We've created a metronome

We've created a metronome with samples from Redrum in Reason. This way, we can control the routing and many other items such as when they come in, when they stop, etc.

With the ableton click you

With the ableton click you can create automation with a midi file in the scene to make it come in and out or even speed up or slow down. The biggest question is the tone differences, is it better to have a rimshot type sound like the LC click or a tone with the 1 beat being different to signify the beginning of the measure?

Personally, it is usually

Personally, it is usually very important to have an accent. We use Live and the drummers I work with like to trigger loops (tambo, shaker or even tracks) during a chorus for example. Live is great for this as clips are quantized to the beginning of a measure. The accent tells the drummer when the clip with start and stop. We like doing this so we aren't stuck to a predetermined arrangement.

Also, you can "hack" Live to replace the built in metronome wavs. This allows you to use any wave files as the built in click. If anyone is interested I can post a tutorial.

I personally like the sound

I personally like the sound of the Ableton Live Click. It cuts through the mix well and doesn't get confused with a percussion instrument. Does anyone know how you can change the accent in ableton to drop on a different beat? I don't think the accent is that important if you are using a vocal cue with your loop.

You can change the accent as

You can change the accent as far as making it double time or half time. but you cannot simply move the accent to the 3 while maintaining global quantize.
You can, however, grab the wav files Live references and drop them into a drum rack. This will allow you to simply create a midi clip and put the accent wherever you like.

I'm actually really surprised

I'm actually really surprised that Ableton does not have more options regarding the metronome. Hopefully this will come in Live 9.
I personally really like the Ableton click sound and use the built in Ableton metronome.

I don't really see any need

I don't really see any need to mess with a powerfully simple idea. the click gives you an accent at the beginning of a measure. what else exactly would you be looking for?

ableton keeps their stuff tight kinda like apple. but i have heard from employees that 9 isn't coming any time soon. they are simply improving upon a very stable version... version 8.2 was very big not too long ago.
